The four-year levy would provide $208.5 million for educational needs not fully funded by the state. Prop. 1 would allow the district to collect up to $268 million if the state Legislature raises the levy cap. This will protect critical student services from cuts if the Legislature cuts state funding.
From time to time, the state Legislature cuts education funding and allows school districts to offset cuts by increasing their levy amounts. The school board would have to vote to increase collections. The public would have an opportunity for input before the vote.
