Midway Update 09/08/2020:

Beep and Greet: We are monitoring the air quality. Based on the weather forecast, the air quality is expected to improve after 11:00 AM and we are not planning for any alterations to the event.  However, we will continue to monitor the air quality as we get closer to see if we need to make any adjustments.

  • Tuesday, September 8th from 3:00-4:00 PM: Join us for a social distance community celebration to launch the school year
    • If you are in a car, please stay in your car. If you are walking, please wear a mask and maintain 6 feet distance
    • Cards with your students’ login information and paper copies of schedules will be handed out
    • Please write the name of the student on a piece of paper so teachers know which students are in the car
    • If you need pencils to start the school year, please let your teacher know (other supplies will be distributed on 9/15 and 9/16)
    • Classroom teachers will be spaced out to support socially distant connections with families and students and will have signs by their names
      • 3rd- 5th grade teachers will be located in the church parking lot across the street
      • Kindergarten teachers will be in the front of the school drive thru
      • 1st and 2nd grade teachers will be in the bus parking lot

Midway Families,

We are approaching the first day of virtual instruction and want to make sure you are prepared. We are here to support you so please let us know what we can do.

Family Connection Meetings, Teacher Assignment and Schedules

  • It has been so wonderful for teachers and families to connect this week. If you have not yet been able to connect with your teacher/schedule a conference, please contact our Success Coach, Ashley Marrs @ Ashley.lefton@highlineschools.org or (253) 693-8437
  • School will begin at 9:15 AM for all 1st-5th grade students on Wednesday, September 9th (kinder check your individual students’ schedule for start time).  Each day, your child will receive a daily schedule in their Seesaw account at 8 AM with all the links they need for the day. Specific grade level weekly schedules have been posted as an announcement in Seesaw. Please check your announcements for the weekly overview and the specific times for live instruction on the first day of instruction, Wed. Sept. 9th.  Please note that on Wednesdays the majority of live instruction will be completed by lunch to release teachers for professional development and collaboration. 
  • The schedule provides suggested times for on your own learning, however, students can complete assignments on their own time
  • Our official schoolwide lunch time is from 12-12:30. Families will be able to pick up lunches starting at 11:45 according to the daily bus pick up schedule.

Lunch During Remote Learning: All Midway students are eligible to receive free breakfast and lunch during remote learning. School meals will be available in two ways:

  • Pick-up DAILY meals at bus stops throughout the district or at elementary schools curbside. 
    • 11:40 a.m. - 29th Avenue South & South 219th Street
    • 11:55 a.m. - 22831 30th Avenue South (Watermark Court)
    • 12:05 p.m. - Kent Des Moines Road (Hillwood Condo back gate)
    • 12:15 p.m. - Midway School Bus Zone - 22447 24th Ave.S
  • Every Monday pick-up a 5-day meal kit. Preorder here

Instructional Materials and School Supplies Distribution

  • We are so sorry that there were not enough school supplies at the distribution sites yesterday.  If you are in need of basic school supplies (pencils, markers, pencil sharpener) to start the school year, please contact our Success Coach, Ashley Marrs @ Ashley.lefton@highlineschools.org or (253) 693-8437. If you are interested in donating school supplies, please also contact Ms. Marrs.
  • We will be distributing instructional materials for ALL students on Tues. 9/15 and Wed. 9/16 from 8:00AM-4:00PM.  During this time, we will also have extra school supplies available for students.  These instructional materials will be essential tools for learning so please mark your calendar. If you are unable to come to Midway

Dear Midway Families,

We are busy preparing for the school year and while it will be different, our teams are working hard to provide the best virtual learning experience possible.  To help launch our year successfully, please note important dates and information.

Teacher Assignments and Family Connection Meetings

  • Teachers have been busy contacting families to schedule Family Connection conferences.  If you have not heard from the school about your student’s teacher assignment by Wednesday 9/2, please call the school office.  If you have not yet scheduled your conference, please use (this form) or call the school office: 206-631-4400.
  •  All 1st-5th grade students will be starting on zoom at 9:15 AM.  Families will receive individual student zoom schedules during the first week of September.
  • Family Connection Conferences which will occur for all families in grades K-5 with their classroom teacher Sept 3, 4 and 8th. The first day of distance learning will be September 9th.

Wednesday, Sept 2 Chromebook Distribution 

Chromebook Distribution: This year each student will receive their own device.  iPads for kindergarten and 1st grade have not yet arrived, however, all students who need a chromebook are invited to pick one up from 9:00 AM-4:00 PM  in the front of the school pick up area. If you are driving, please stay in your car. If you are walking, please ensure you practice social distancing protocols.  From 9:00-10:00 AM, 12:00-1:00 PM, and 3:00-4:00 PM we will have staff available to help with logging into the devices and accessing computer programs such as Seesaw and Zoom in the South End parking lot (nearest to Pacific).

Thursday, Sept 3rd: School Supplies Distribution: School supplies (such as spiral notebooks, composition notebooks, pens, pencils, crayons) are available for all families at the locations listed below. If you are driving to pick up, please come to Midway Elementary at 12:15. If you are walking, you can go to any of the bust stop locations.

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year letter to families at Midway!

Hello Midway Families,  

Welcome to the 2020-21 school year. We hope you and your families are doing well during this challenging time.  While COVID-19 has shifted learning to an online experience this fall, our staff is committed to providing high quality teaching and learning opportunities for all students. We learned a great deal last spring and are busy using that experience to develop our distance learning plan.  We know there are many questions and we will do our best to update the community as information becomes available. Please make sure to keep your email and phone number up to date and check our district website www.highlineschools.org periodically for updates. New family resources are being developed and will be coming out soon.

School Supplies

  • Materials provided by the school:
    • Chromebooks (2nd-5th grade) and iPads (K/1): All students will receive their own device to use for distance learning. We will share the details for how we will distribute these devices as soon as the devices are ready.
    • Non-digital learning materials: math books, manipulatives, literacy notebooks
  • Students will need the supplies listed below. Materials will be available for those in need.  Once materials have arrived we will notify you of the distribution information.

·         headphones for their district provided laptop or ipad

  • Next week (week of August 24-28th), families will receive a phone call to inform you of your child’s teacher and schedule a family connection meeting.  If you do not receive a phone call by August 31st, please call the office.
